The alternative treatment that’s 5000 years old, Sybil finds out if there’s a modern application for cupping – AcuWell Acupuncture Clinic, Dublin.

Maria Maher, AcuWell Acupuncture Clinic on TV3’s Midweek programme: Maria talks about her journey to providing her acupuncture service.
AcuWell provides Acupuncture and other Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments in Dublin and Athlone to restore your health and wellbeing. Acupuncture itself is a branch of medicine which originated thousands of years ago in China. It views the body as one whole energy system and, as such, treats the root cause of a health condition as well as the symptoms experienced. It works at an emotional, spiritual and physical level.
Acupuncture for fertility and pregnancy and reproductive health in general comprises a significant part of AcuWell’s practice. Patients with fertility issues or who are undergoing IVF are treated daily at AcuWell clinics.
How can acupuncture help you? The World Health Organisation recognises that acupuncture is effective in treating over 40 common conditions. AcuWell founder, Maria Maher, originally studied acupuncture because it helped relieve the negative side effects she experienced from chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment following surgery to remove a brain tumour. She treats all conditions, although she has a special interest in Fertility and Pregnancy Acupuncture and has completed postgraduate training with fertility, obstetrics and pregnancy experts Zita West, Jani White, Dr. Trevor Wing, Debra Betts and Sarah Budd. She has a Diploma with Distinction in TCM Gynaecology and Obstetrics – Acupuncture.
“I know, first-hand, what the benefits of acupuncture are. In fact, it is the reason I am an acupuncturist today! The first time I had it was when I was diagnosed with brain cancer (that dreaded “C word”). I had to have 30 sessions of radiotherapy and four months of chemotherapy and suffered from nausea, headaches, low energy and sometimes low spirits. A course of acupuncture helped change that. I felt so much better after each acupuncture treatment – headache gone, nausea gone, and I felt better mentally too. It really helped me get through the long journey that illness brings and on my road to recovery. It has also helped relieve my lower back pain any time I get back pain (from tennis!). The experience convinced me to practise acupuncture full time and help others get through whatever health issue they have. I hope you will give it a try. I’d love to help you.” – Maria Maher, AcuWell
